hachi feels like coming home

Feels Just Like Coming Home

Our doors at hachi are open for curious travelers and explorers
searching for a new understanding of our beautiful city, Kyoto.

We welcome solo travelers or pairs to stay with us in our
renovated traditional Kyomachiya (Kyoto townhouse) built around 90 years ago.

Our neighborhood is in the historical Shimabara district and just one stop away from Kyoto Station.

We are excited to meeting you and sharing our favorite spots with you.

Floor Map

Our beautiful traditional building is a complex of our lives including our living spaces, two guest rooms and our show room (opening soon).

Our show room offsʌɪt studio will be a shop showcasing products of our own brand and other D2C brands focusing on sustainable and ethical production processes. We believe that with offsʌɪt studio we can give brands and their efforts to make our planet a healthier one a voice.
Complementing our showroom we are also working on starting our online blog/magazine offsʌɪt covering in depth stories of people shaping brands, arts and businesses.

We are currently working on launching our sustainable and ethical lifestyle clothing line monoloc.

We offer 2 private rooms at  hachi. Both rooms use shared toilets and showers.

1st floor: Japanese room (1 person)
2nd floor: Modern room (2 persons)

The lounge is a traditional Japanese room which comes with a tsuboniwa (an inner garden often seen in town houses in Kyoto) . This room is perfect for just chilling on tatami, reading a book or talking to us.

A shared kitchenette and dining room upstairs is free to use for our guests.

  • Check-in: 3pm – 9pm / Check-out: 11am
  • This is not a hostel or vacation house. We, Takuji & Onur, live in this house, and it is more like a homestay.
  • There is no curfew but please refrain from disturbing other guests and our neighbours especially during the evening/night.
  • Smoking is not permitted, except in the designated smoking area. Furthermore, please refrain from any other acts that could cause a fire in your room and inside the building.

History & Culture

As one of the oldest entertainment districts in Japan Shimabara enchants visitors with historic landmarks, public baths and authentic restaurants. Today a relaxed neighbourhood, Shimabara is a great way to experience the slower Kyoto life.

In contrast to Shimabara, the traditional neighbourhood, the Kyoto Central Wholesale Market is a more unusual neighbourhood to explore the quaint buildings and restaurants.

A different type of Kyoto off the beaten path.

Located just one stop away from Kyoto Station on the JR Sagano Line, Guest House hachi is only a 5 minute walk from JR Umekoji Kyoto Nishi Station
If you would like to take the bus, two options are available. When taking bus 205, please get off at Umekoji Park. As for bus 206, please get off at Shimabaraguchi.
